The National Medical Association is the collective voice of African American physicians and the leading force for equity in medicine. The elimination of healthcare disparities is a major focus and priority for the organization. The Maryland State NMA is proud to represent the objectives and goals of our national organization in the great state of Maryland.
The NMA is the largest and oldest national organization representing African American physicians in the United States. The NMA is a 501c(3) organization representing the interests of more than 50,000 African American physicians and the patients they serve. The NMA is committed to improving the quality of health for minorities and disadvantaged people. The NMA achieves its objectives in a variety of ways. These include professional education, scientific and scholarly activities, health policy initiatives and public health initiatives.
Our Commitment: The NMA is committed to improving the quality of health among minorities and marginalized people through its membership, professional development, community health, education, advocacy, research and partnerships.
Our Focus: Since 1895 the NMA was focused primarily on health issues related to African Americans and medically underserved populations. However, their initiatives benefit all racial and ethnic groups.
